Every now and then, I read books that help me understand the world we live in, and how it translates in investment. Here is the highlight of what I found interesting over the past 3 months.
Chip War - Chris Miller
Synopsis: Epic account of the decades-long battle to control microchip technology, a critical resource with the United States and China increasingly in conflict.
Takeaway: Thought-provoking on the geopolitical ramifications of the semiconductor industry, and the arms race for control of the AI supply chain.
Quit - Annie Duke
Synopsis: A guide on mastering the skill of quitting to achieve greater success.
Takeaway: Interesting foray into a poker player’s mindset when assessing winning probabilities. Nothing that you would not have heard already in “Thinking Fast and Slow” by Kahneman.
Noise - Daniel Kahneman
Synopsis: Explores the concept of noise, or unwanted variability in decision-making, and its impact on judgments across various fields.
Takeaway: Very statistics-oriented. A few tips to reduce noise and bias in organizations. Little add-on from previous excellent books.
Outlive - Peter Attia
Synopsis: Exploration of aging, offering insights and strategies to live longer and in better health, challenging conventional medical thinking on aging.
Takeaway: Trendy reading on taking care of your health, both physical and mental, in order to power through. Resonated well with personal experience.
Material World - Ed Conway
Synopsis: Explores the profound influence of six fundamental materials—sand, salt, iron, copper, oil, and lithium—on human civilization.
Takeaway: A fantastic journey across the world and the most essential materials that support our global economy. Food for thought on where bottlenecks could come from in a global supply chain disruption.
